Cook Competes in Inaugural Mexico 200
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (March 6,
2005) - Road racing specialist Chris Cook finished 26th
in today’s inaugural Mexico 200 NASCAR Busch Series
race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City,
Mexico.
Cook drove the No. 7, NEMCO Motorsports-prepared
l’Alsace Chevrolet in only his second career Busch
Series race - and his first since 1999. Qualifying an impressive
16th among 43 starters, Cook adapted well to the 2.518-mile
road course, running most of the day comfortably in the
top-20.
In the closing stages of the race,
however, rookie Denny Hamlin spun directly in front of Cook
who nearly missed the wreck, but clipped the car of Hamlin
with his right front fender. Sustaining considerable damage,
the crew made repairs and returned Cook to the track where
he brought the l’Alsace Chevrolet home in the 26th
position.
The next race for Cook and
the NEMCO Motorsports/Christine Marie Motorsports effort
will be the NEXTEL Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway in
Sonoma, California on June 26. Then, Cook will compete in
the Busch/NEXTEL Cup Series double-header weekend at Watkins
Glen International on August 13 and 14.
