Chris Cook is a true racer, a driving instructor, and an entrepreneur. An accomplished driver with 20 years of extensive racing experience, he has held licenses in NASCAR, FIA, Sports Car, SCCA Pro, Grand Am, Motorola Cup, and others. Cook has extensive experience in a number of road racing series including the Fur Rondy Grand Prix Series, where he won multiple championships. Cook raced in the IMSA Firehawk Series where he finished third in the championship and captured a victory. He was also named the 1992 Late Model Rookie of the Year at the Nashville Speedway.
One of Cook’s most impressive racing efforts came in his NASCAR Busch Series debut at Watkins Glen International in 1999. With an impressive qualifying time, he started 19th in the 43 car field. He raced his way to 2nd with 21 laps remaining, only to have his hopes of a strong finish dashed when a rod bearing in the engine failed, eliminating him from competition.
As a driving instructor, he was the youngest Chief Instructor in the history of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona. Cook has worked with other world-class drivers on racing techniques, as well as sports car enthusiasts on how to better handle their machines. Cook’s driving talents have led him to provide driving instruction to areas outside of racing as well. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, he has worked with stunt drivers on all levels of car control. He has also worked with Special Forces on anti-terrorist driving skills.
For years, Cook has been hired by NASCAR teams and drivers for road racing coaching and testing. Through his company, ShiftIntoGear, Inc., he has worked with teams such as Robert Yates Racing and drivers such as Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney, and Tim Fedewa.
Now that Cook has found a home at Christine Marie Motorsports, he has competed in several events during the 2005 season and is looking forward to competing in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2006.
In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and extreme sports. Cook resides in Davidson, North Carolina with his fiancé Tabitha Meready.
