Christine Marie Motorsports' Chris Cook Keeps Busy

Indiana, PA August 1, 2006 -- Unlike some drivers who spend their downtime on vacation, Christine Marie Motorsports’ Chris Cook has kept plenty busy while he awaits the team’s next race.

Cook, who drives the No. 43 car for team owner Chris Evans, is also partners with Evans in the Shift Into Gear Driving School in Mooresville, N.C. Through that business, Cook has been helping drivers of all ages and all levels of experience become better behind the wheel.

"I’m very thrilled with how busy we are," said Cook. "I have been coaching most of my life, and now we are taking it all to a new level."

Here’s a small look into the coaching Cook has done recently:

  • The next day, Cook traveled to Watkins Glen, N.Y., to help Nextel Cup rookie Clint Bowyer learn the ins and outs of the famed road course. Cook also worked with Bowyer on May 18 and May 20, then spotted for him during the June 25 Nextel Cup race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
  • After teaching Bowyer, Cook worked with Kevin Harvick Inc., driver Burney Lamar at Watkins Glen in preparation for the Busch Series race there on Aug. 12.
  • On the side, Cook has been working with an up-and-coming driver named James Hansen, who races late models at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. To date, Hansen is sixth in the track’s point standings.
  • Last month, Cook coached Moses Smith at Irwindale, Calif., helping the young driver who competes in the NASCAR Busch West Series.

On top of that, Cook and Evans recently agreed to help the Ford Motor Co. with its line of 2007 cars at Ginger Man Raceway, in South Haven, Mich.

Cook will work with Ford after testing show cars and will work with about 90 participants top learn about the new line of cars.

"We’ll have a great time and let them all experience the new cars and trucks," Cook said.

While the coaching business has certainly kept Cook and Shift Into Gear busy, Cook is also looking forward to the Aug. 12-13 weekend, when he’s scheduled to compete at Watkins Glen. Cook will drive for the Christine Marie Motorsports team during the Busch race and hopes to have a ride for the Nextel Cup the next day.

"I just tested the car," Cook said of the No. 43 Dodge he’ll use for the Busch race. "The car seems very fast and very comfortable at high speed. It should be a solid race car for the Glen."
