COOK TO TAKE LEPAGE’S SEAT AT SONOMA

SONOMA, CA, June 22, 2006 -- Chris Cook isn’t getting much of a summer vacation.

After competing the last two weekends in NASCAR Busch Series races at Nashville and Kentucky, Cook, driver for the Christine Marie Motorsports team, has been hired by BAM Racing to drive the No. 49 Dodge this weekend at the Nextel Cup Savemart 350 at Infineon Raceway.

Cook will replace Kevin Lepage, who normally drives the No. 49 car, at the 2.5-mile road course. A veteran road-course driver, Cook has worked extensively with many top drivers around the country on their road-course skills.

“Kevin is a great driver, and I was thrilled to receive his phone call to drive in his place in California,” said Cook, who grew up not far from the Sonoma track.

Sunday’s race will be televised on FOX, beginning at 3 p.m., EST. Qualifying will be shown live, beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, on the SPEED Channel.

The race marks Cook’s second venture into Nextel Cup racing at Sonoma. Last season, Cook drove the #187 Christine Marie Motorsports car to a 28th-place finish there.

To date, Lepage is 40th in the Nextel Cup standings and has made 12 of the 15 scheduled races. Additionally, he has earned almost $1.1 million this season.

“Kevin, in my opinion, is one of the best drivers in the country,” said Cook, “and I feel honored to have him pick me to replace him. I respect him, and I owe he and his team a solid finish for this great opportunity.”

Last weekend, Cook placed 30th at Kentucky Speedway after reaching as high as fifth place in the Meijer 300. The week before, he took 28th in the Federated Auto Parts 300 in Nashville.
