Late-Race Tangle Spoils Top-25 Bid for Cook, #43 ShiftIntoGear Dodge At NASCAR Busch Series Meijer 300 in Kentucky

SPARTA, KY, June 17, 2006 - Chris Cook and the #43 ShiftIntoGear Dodge team of the Curb Agajanian Performance Group had their bid for a top-25 finish spoiled by a late-race incident in tonight’s NASCAR Busch Series Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway.

Cook, the veteran driving instructor and NASCAR road-course specialist who last week at Nashville brought home a 28th-place finish in his NASCAR oval-track debut in the #43 CAPG Dodge, overcame an off-course excursion on the second lap of tonight’s 200-lap event around the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway tri-oval to work his way into the top-10 in the early going by staying out during a Lap-49 caution. He ultimately found himself headed for an apparent top-25 finish when he was spun by another competitor with just 17 laps to go, leaving him to settle for a 30th-place finish.

Cook returns to the driver’s seat next weekend on the road course at Infineon Raceway, where he’ll pilot the #49 BAM Racing Nextel Cup Series Dodge.

CHRIS COOK

“It wasn’t the result you dream about, but once again there were some positives that we can take away from this weekend. All in all, we gained a lot during practice yesterday. And (crew chief) Mark Durgin worked his magic and made some good calls for qualifying, because the car was much better in qualifying that it was during practice. We had a super-tight race car pretty much all weekend, and we were fighting that during the race. But everyone worked their tails off trying to get the car to be good off under throttle. Hey, you can’t lose sight of the fact we’re a small team with ambitious goals week in and week out. We have a hammer, we have wood, we have nails, and we’re just hammering away right now. We may not have set the world on fire this weekend, but we’re building away and it feels like we’re headed in the right direction.”
